Clapham Moped Chase Ends in Shocking Shotgun Shooting
A dramatic police chase in Clapham took a violent turn tonight when shots were fired from a fleeing moped, injuring three people. Two victims suffered shotgun pellet wounds, while a third was hurt after being struck by the moped. The chaos unfolded near Clapham Common, sparking road closures and a major emergency response.
Shots Fired During High-Speed Pursuit
The Metropolitan Police confirmed officers were chasing a moped that failed to stop at around 4:55pm. As the pursuit hit Clapham Common South Side, gunshots rang out from the moped. Eyewitnesses heard a loud bang, described as a shotgun blast, and saw at least one woman shot in the leg.
A social media snap showed a discarded sawn-off shotgun lying in the street, highlighting the severity of the incident.
Emergency Services Rush to Scene
Paramedics from the London Ambulance Service rushed the injured to hospital, with two taken to major trauma centres. Luckily, police say none of the wounds appear life-threatening at this stage.
Officers are now hunting the moped and suspects who fled the scene. Firearms specialists have launched an intensive search in the area.
Police Appeal for Witnesses and Dashcam Footage
An investigation has been launched following a firearms incident in south 1,” a Met Police spokesperson said.
“The suspects remain at large. Anyone who saw the moped or captured footage is urged to call 101 with reference CAD 5008/1 Mar.”
Nearby locals described scenes of panic, with customers inside pubs close to the incident left shaken and fearful.
The police continue their urgent enquiries as the hunt for those responsible continues.
