PC Liz Ferris Saves Motorcyclist with Lifesaving CPR on Off-Duty Drive

Off-duty PC Liz Ferris was driving through Tiptree when she spotted a motorcyclist lying unresponsive on the road. With over 15 years of Essex Police experience, Liz sprang into action, administering CPR for 15 tense minutes until paramedics arrived.

Heroic Efforts Bring Rider Back to Life

Paramedics used a defibrillator while Liz kept pumping the chest. Their combined efforts brought the rider back to breathing. The man was then airlifted to hospital for urgent care.

Liz, based at Stanway Roads Policing Unit, has now been nominated for a commendation for her quick thinking and bravery.

“I was driving home and noticed the man on the floor,” Liz said. “He didn’t have a pulse and my initial reaction was to try and save him – it was a long 10 plus minutes.

“Fortunately, members of the public flagged down passing paramedics and the man started breathing. I’ve been told I’m up for a commendation, which is nice recognition.

“I hope the motorcyclist is well and wish him a speedy recovery.”

Not Her First Rescue Mission

The dramatic incident unfolded on Maldon Road on Tuesday 30 June. Liz isn’t new to life-saving acts. Back in January 2018, she pulled a vulnerable man from freezing Thames waters near Canvey coastline.

Adam Pipe, head of Essex Police’s Roads Policing, praised her outstanding efforts. He confirmed receiving an email from the East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust, stating Liz’s quick action saved the patient’s life.

“Without her presence and quick action, the patient would have been beyond help,” said Pipe. “Liz saved a stranger’s life and demonstrated the highest standards of a police officer.”
