Homeless Thieves Nabbed After Daring Daylight Heists in London’s Financial District
Daniel Ramzi, 26, and Abderrahim Mamma, 29, both homeless, have pleaded guilty to multiple thefts after a series of bold daylight robberies across London’s financial heartland.
Snatched Phones and Laptops at Bishopsgate and Leadenhall Market
On January 15, the pair struck at a Bishopsgate fast-food joint, snatching a mobile phone straight from a victim’s coat pocket.
- Later that same day, they targeted a licensed venue on Gracechurch Street and a pub in Leadenhall Market, stealing laptops from bags.
- CCTV footage revealed them casually reaching over barriers, swiping bags, pulling out laptops, then replacing the bags as if nothing happened.
Bag Swapping Stunt in Old Broad Street Pubs
Just days later, on January 21, Ramzi and Mamma hit pubs on Old Broad Street. Ramzi boldly swapped bags from piles with decoy bags, repeating the trick before making a quick getaway.
Jail Sentences and City Ban for Serial Offenders
Mamma, who confessed to seven additional thefts around the City, was handed 20 months behind bars and slapped with a 5-year Criminal Behaviour Order banning him from the City of London.
Ramzi was sentenced to 14 months in prison.
City of London Police Promise Clampdown on Bag Thefts
“This is another great result in seeing two prolific bag thieves behind bars. We hope that these sentences will reassure businesses and the public that we take these offences seriously,” said Sergeant James Wood of City of London Police. “Our warning to criminals; don’t come into the City to steal bags. We will bring offenders to justice and use all our resources to prevent further crimes.”
