Top Cop Scott Chilton Tipped for Hampshire Police Boss Job
Scott Chilton, the current Chief Constable of Dorset Police, is in line to become the next Chief Constable of Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary.
From Hampshire Rookie to Dorset Leader
Scott began his policing career in Hampshire back in 1992, working his way up through the ranks from uniformed officer to detective by 1996. Over 16 years, he climbed steadily to Assistant Chief Constable, leading investigations, custody, criminal justice, and intelligence teams.
In 2020, he left Hampshire to serve as Deputy Chief Constable for Dorset Police before landing the top job there in July 2021.
PCC Donna Jones Backs Chilton
“After a comprehensive selection process, I am delighted to announce Scott Chilton as my preferred candidate to be appointed as the next Chief Constable of Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary,” said Police and Crime Commissioner Donna Jones.
“Scott is a highly experienced senior police officer. I look forward to working closely with him to deliver on my Police and Crime Plan and ensure the force provides an outstanding service to the public.”
Appointment to Be Confirmed in November
Scott Chilton’s appointment is subject to approval at a confirmation hearing by the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary Police and Crime Panel. The hearing is set for November 21.
The news follows Chief Constable Olivia Pinkney’s September announcement of her retirement from policing in spring 2023, opening the door for Chilton’s potential move.
