Tragic End to Student’s Night Out: Body Found in South Quay
Gurashman Singh Bhatia, 23, went missing after a night out with friends on Thursday, 14 December. Police are now urging the public to help piece together his last known movements following a grim discovery.
Last Seen on CCTV Before Disappearance
The Indian student based in London was last caught on CCTV in South Quay around 4:20am on Friday, 15 December. He was reported missing later that day at 5:48pm. Extensive police inquiries followed, involving witness interviews, checking CCTV footage, phone and financial data analysis, and water searches.
Body Found in South Quay Water
On the afternoon of 20 December, divers located the body of a man in the water at South Quay. While formal identification is pending, Gurashman’s family has been informed. Our thoughts are with them during this heartbreaking time.
Police Appeal for Information
Detective Chief Superintendent James Conway said: “This is an extremely tragic outcome and not the news we wanted to give to Gurashman’s family and friends. I send them my deepest condolences.”
“We are treating Gurashman’s death as unexpected. There’s nothing to suggest suspicious circumstances, but our investigation will be thorough.”
“We are releasing a CCTV image taken before his disappearance and ask anyone who saw Gurashman in the Marsh Wall area on the evening of 14 December or early 15 December to come forward.”
