Met Police Rally to Cheer Up Lonely Arsenal Fan Boy
The Met’s Central East Command Unit response team went the extra mile to brighten the day of an 11-year-old boy found in heartbreaking circumstances in Hackney.
Found Alone and Upset, Officers Step In
On 6 February, officers rushed to the boy’s home after a third-party concern call. They found him alone and in distress. The team quickly arranged for him to be placed in proper care.
Officers Chip In to Buy Gifts – And Arsenal Join In
Determined to lift his spirits, the officers pooled together over £1,000 from their own pockets. The cash bought clothes, toys, games, and books for the young Arsenal fan.
They then got in touch with Arsenal Football Club, who kindly donated official replica training kit and clothing to the boy.
Surprise Gift Visit at Stoke Newington Station
All the presents were handed over as a surprise when the boy visited Stoke Newington Police Station on 18 March. The youngster is now living in a safe new home.
Inspector Gareth Wiles said: “I am incredibly proud of my team. As response officers, we face many dangers every day – but this shows how much we care and go above and beyond for the most vulnerable.”
“I hope the team’s actions bring some comfort to this child at a very dark time.”
An Arsenal spokesperson added: “When the police brought this very sad case to our attention, we were happy to help by donating some Arsenal kit.”
