Hit-and-Run Horror in Balby: Elderly Woman Seriously Injured
Shock on 1 Lane, Balby, this morning as a 76-year-old woman was hit by a white Ford Transit tipper around 9:10am.
Transit Slams into Woman While Reversing
Police say the Transit struck the woman while trying to reverse. The driver and passenger reportedly jumped out, saw the victim on the ground, then fled the scene.
Two Arrested After Vehicle Recovered
- A 38-year-old man, the driver, was nabbed on suspicion of theft of motor vehicle, causing serious injury by dangerous driving, and failing to stop.
- He’s now released under investigation.
- A 56-year-old passenger was arrested for perverting the course of justice and remains in custody.
Victim in Critical Condition
The elderly woman was rushed to Hallamshire Hospital with serious brain and pelvic injuries.
Police Appeal to Witnesses
Officers urge anyone who saw the crash or has dashcam footage of the vehicle before or after the incident to come forward. Call 101 quoting incident number 203 of 29 March 2021.
