Driver Fined £300 and Hits Six-Point Ban for No Insurance and Seatbelt Offences
On Wednesday 5 July 2023, police stopped a car on the A229 Chatham Road only to discover the driver was uninsured. All four passengers were slapped with Traffic Offence Reports. Those caught without seatbelts were fined £100 each. The driver faced a £300 fine plus six points on his licence.
Vehicle Seized, Friend Also Caught Uninsured
The Proactive Targeting Team seized the vehicle and arranged for it to be collected by someone insured. Later, when the driver and a friend came to pick it up, checks revealed the friend wasn’t insured to drive the car he arrived in. He was also fined and given points.
Another Motorist Caught Using Mobile at Wheel
The same team stopped a driver in Earl Street for using a mobile phone while driving and for a cracked windscreen. He was hit with two fines totalling £300 and received nine points on his licence.
Police Warning: “It Only Takes a Second to Cause a Fatal Crash”
Inspector Tom Pooley from Tactical Operations Command said: “Most motorists drive safely, but some still ignore the law on seatbelts and mobile phone use. It is not OK to use your phone without a hands-free kit. It only takes a second to be distracted and cause a potentially fatal accident. This small mistake could change lives forever.”
