Man Killed After High-Speed BMW Chase Ends in Crash on A4, Reading
Tragedy struck early this morning on the A4 Bath Road in Reading when a high-speed police chase ended in a fatal collision.
BMW Fails to Stop, Pursuit Cancelled Before Deadly Crash
At 5:17am on 23 May, Thames Valley Police spotted a blue BMW tearing along the Bath Road. Officers attempted to pull the car over, but it refused to stop. Police called off the chase shortly after for safety reasons.
Moments later, the BMW crashed. A 41-year-old man inside was pronounced dead at the scene. His family has been informed and are receiving support from specially trained officers.
Two Injured and Two Arrested After Incident
Two other men were injured in the collision. Thankfully, their injuries are not life-threatening.
A 31-year-old and a 27-year-old man have been arrested and remain in custody while inquiries continue.
Road Closures and Independent Probe Underway
The A4 Bath Road remains shut both ways between Berkeley Avenue and Parkside Road. Drivers are urged to avoid the area.
Due to previous police contact, Thames Valley Police has made a mandatory referral to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC). The IOPC will carry out an independent investigation, with Thames Valley Police fully cooperating.
