Lorry Blaze Sparks Massive M25 Chaos Near Wisley

Chaos erupted on the M25 on Thursday when a lorry caught fire near the Wisley Interchange. The anticlockwise carriageway was slammed shut, causing a massive seven-mile tailback between Junction 10 (A3) and Junction 8 (A217).

Road Closures and Diversions Add to Gridlock

The motorway was closed in both directions shortly after 4 a.m. Junction 10 shut around 5:10 a.m., though it reopened clockwise by 6 a.m. Drivers were forced onto a complicated diversion route: A3 to Tolworth, A240 to Burgh Heath, then A217 back to the M25 at Reigate.

Surrey towns along the diversion route suffered heavy congestion as stranded drivers tried to dodge the jams with their own detours.

Drivers and Travellers Left Stuck for Hours

Scores of drivers got trapped between the blaze and closure points. It took traffic officers hours to start directing stranded vehicles to exit at Junction 9. The chaos even hit Gatwick passengers, many of whom missed their flights. Reports say pilots themselves were caught in the traffic nightmare.

M25 motorists: expect delays and avoid the area if you can.
