Isle of Wight Museum of Island History Set to Reopen!

After a year-long shutdown, the Museum of Island History is ready to welcome visitors back on Monday, 7 March. Located in the iconic Guildhall on Newport High Street, the museum promises a thrilling dive into the Island’s past—from dinosaurs to modern day marvels.

Step Back in Time

Explore fascinating artefacts that tell the tale of the Isle of Wight’s rich history. The museum features hands-on displays and the latest archaeological discoveries. Plus, there will be fresh exhibitions changing throughout the year to keep things exciting.

Exciting Events on the Horizon

  • afterWARds (April): A gripping exhibition showcasing visual media and creative writing by ex-servicemen. It’s a striking look at war experiences from across generations.
  • Holiday Island (May): Dive into the history of tourism on the Island with the summer exhibition.

Expect plenty of free community days with guided tours and family activities. Local groups can also display mini exhibitions in the community case or larger exhibits during the winter season.

Thanks to our partnership with Visit Isle of Wight, we’re thrilled to open the doors again on 7 March and bring the historic Guildhall back to life,” said Councillor Shirley Smart, Executive member for public transport, tourism, recreation and heritage.
