Fugitive Drug Dealer Alex Male Snared at Lisbon Airport
Alex Male, a major drug suspect, was nabbed at Lisbon Airport last Saturday after arriving from Turkey – where he had been denied entry just hours earlier for carrying a suspicious document. The Weston-super-Mare man had been on the run and was recently added to the National Crime Agency’s Most Wanted list.
On The Run After EncroChat Bust
Male’s troubles began when the South West Regional Organised Crime Unit (SW ROCU) arrested him during the massive Operation Venetic crackdown on crime. He allegedly used the encrypted messaging app EncroChat to traffic class A drugs across the South West of England.
More Than Just Drugs
Authorities also link Male to money laundering and conspiracy to get hold of firearms to back up his drug empire. After a stint hiding out in Marbella, Spain, he shifted to Portugal—only to be caught trying to fly back from Turkey last week.
Crackdown on Dangerous Criminals
“Any arrest of a fugitive is a fantastic result, even more so since Male had only recently been added to our most wanted list. He is wanted in connection with dangerous crimes, which have a devastating impact on communities,” said a NCA spokesperson.
