Lorry Overturns at M3 Winnall Junction Causing Massive Delays

Chaos erupted at junction 9 of the M3 Winnall near Spitfire Link after a Cooperative heavy goods vehicle flipped over while entering the roundabout from the A34.

Roads Blocked, Long Delays Reported

All lanes entering the roundabout were blocked, sparking long tailbacks on the southbound A34. Three fire crews from Winchester, Alton, and Redbridge rushed to the scene just after 1.20pm on Saturday, alongside police and Highways England teams.

Fuel Leak and Crash Barrier Damage

An environmental fire unit from Alton was dispatched amid reports the lorry was leaking fuel. Despite the serious damage, the driver miraculously escaped with only minor cuts and bruises.

About 20 metres of crash barrier were shredded and now need urgent replacement. Roads policing officers from Hampshire’s Totton base confirmed two lanes on the Winnall Roundabout have reopened but will shut again when a crane arrives for recovery work.

Drivers Urged to Avoid Area

Motorists heading southbound on the M3 from the A34 are being diverted via junction 10, avoiding Spitfire Link completely. Police are urging drivers to steer clear of the jam-packed area and find alternative routes to dodge gridlock.
