Major Crash Shuts M27 Junction 7 Near Southampton
A serious collision has shut the M27 westbound exit slip road at Junction 7 Hedge End East this morning. The accident involved a vehicle that crashed and overturned, causing chaos on the busy motorway.
Junction 7 Closed – Delays Expected Until Late Afternoon
Police have closed all lanes of the exit slip road at the A334 / B3036 Hedge End junction. Emergency services, including police, fire, and ambulance crews, rushed to the scene to manage the incident.
The junction is expected to remain closed until at least 12:15pm for clear-up and vehicle recovery. However, an update at 1pm revealed the closure will likely extend until 4pm, as contractors replace crash barriers and remove debris.
Additional Collision Worsens Traffic
Adding to the misery, a separate crash just before the junction has further disrupted traffic. A BMW 1 Series aquaplaned and smashed into the central reservation on the westbound carriageway.
Thankfully, this secondary collision is not thought to be serious. Emergency teams have moved the BMW to the hard shoulder to ease traffic flow.
Drivers Urged to Take Diversions
Motorists heading to Hamble and surrounding areas are advised to follow official diversions. Police warn of significant delays and encourage drivers to plan extra time for their journeys.
“The junction will remain closed for several hours as we carry out recovery and repair works,” a police spokesperson said.
