Man, 39, Busted for Attempted Kidnap in City Centre

A 39-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted kidnap after allegedly trying to lure two young children away from their guardians in a busy city centre.

The alarming event unfolded just after 4pm on Thursday when Thames Valley Police received reports of the man attempting to lead the children away from their adults. Officers acted fast, arresting the suspect who remains in custody as the investigation continues.

Community Leader Warns Parents and Visitors to Stay Alert

Edward Mundy, head of the Oxford Community Independent Group on the City Council, called the incident “hugely distressing” but reassured locals that such cases are “very rare” in Oxford.

“Criminals can see this as an opportunity,” Mr Mundy warned. “Be aware of your surroundings, especially in regard to children, and report suspicious activity immediately.”
