Man Shot in Face with Catapult at Southampton Duck Pond
Police are hunting witnesses after a 58-year-old man was targeted and injured by youths wielding a catapult at a duck pond in Southampton.
Attack Shocks Duck Pond Visitors
The shocking incident unfolded between 4pm and 4.15pm on Sunday, March 27, at 1 Pond Park. The victim was sitting quietly by the duck pond when three boys burst into the park.
They began shooting at the ducks, tragically killing two of them. Then, without warning, one fired a shot straight at the man, striking his face just inches from his eye.
Victim Walked to Police Amid Injury
The injured man managed to walk to a nearby police station to report the assault. Paramedics later took him to Southampton General Hospital where he was treated for a cut and bruising to his right temple.
Police Seek Three Suspects
- The first boy is described as white, aged 12-14, slight build, about 5ft 3in, with light brown hair.
- The other two suspects are believed to be around 16 years old, taller, and larger in build.
PC Sarah Miller, of Redbridge police station, said: “In recent weeks, youths have been firing catapults at garden furniture and vehicles in the Redbridge area. It’s vital we find those responsible before someone gets seriously hurt.”
