Tragic Crash at Thruxton: Rider Killed in Pirelli National Superstock Race

Police are urgently appealing for anyone who may have filmed the fatal crash at Thruxton Race Circuit to come forward. The horror unfolded at 1.24pm on Sunday 6 August during the Pirelli National Superstock 1000 race near Andover.

Ex-Royal Marine Dies After High-Speed Smash

Mark Fincham, 37, from Kings Lynn, suffered fatal injuries in a two-bike collision. The race was immediately halted as medical teams rushed to the scene. Despite urgent treatment by the British Superbike (BSB) Medical Team and transfer to the circuit medical centre, Fincham sadly died.

A former Royal Marine, Fincham had already overcome adversity after a 2007 road accident led to part of his leg being amputated. He made his mark in motorsport as part of True Heroes, a team that supports injured servicemen and veterans in competitive racing. 2017 was his first full season in the Pirelli National Superstock Championship.

Other Rider Unharmed as Investigation Continues

The second rider involved, Jim Walker, escaped uninjured. Series organisers expressed their sorrow in a statement:

“Following a two-machine motorcycle accident during the Pirelli National Superstock 1000 race, Mark Fincham of bike number 903 suffered serious injuries. The race was stopped immediately, and medical teams intervened swiftly. It is with great regret we announce that Mark succumbed to his injuries whilst receiving treatment.”

Police are working to understand the full circumstances but have confirmed the death is not being treated as suspicious.
