Granny Scammed Out of £12,000 in Police Impersonation Horror

Shameless fraudsters have made off with a whopping £12,000 from an elderly woman in her 80s after tricking her with a bogus police call.

Fake Cop Rings Up, Demands £5,000 Cash

On 22 March, the victim got a chilling call from a man claiming to be a police officer. He warned of suspicious activity on her late husband’s bank account and told her to withdraw £5,000 as part of a “bank investigation.”

Trusting the caller, she did exactly as asked. Then, she was contacted by another scammer posing as her bank, promising a refund – but only if she handed over every penny she had at home.

Later that day, a young woman turned up at the victim’s home. Wearing a hi-vis jacket and boasting long false nails, slick black-brown hair, and described as Middle Eastern and slim, she claimed to be a police courier and collected the cash.

The total haul? A shocking £12,000 stolen from a vulnerable pensioner.

Police Hunt Con Artists, Urge Witnesses to Speak Up

“Preying on vulnerable members of society is despicable and we’re doing all we can to ensure those responsible are identified,” said Police Constable Sharpe of GMP’s 1 district.

“If you live nearby and think you’ve been targeted or recognise the woman’s description, please come forward.”
