Youth Protesters Slam Oxford Circus with Road Blockade

Several protesters were arrested after Youth Demand, a fresh-faced campaign group, caused chaos by blocking Oxford Circus yesterday afternoon. The disruption hit one of London’s busiest spots, sparking a major police response.

Protesters Sit Down & Shout Out Against the Political Elite

The drama unfolded around 2:40pm on June 22, when demonstrators sat in the street, waved posters, and blasted messages through megaphones. Youth Demand shared a video on X, declaring: “We will not blindly support a broken political system that turns a blind eye to genocide. Voting, letter writing, and signing petitions is no longer enough – we must escalate.”

Police Move In – Arrests Made, Road Cleared

Police gave protesters until 3:05pm to clear the road. Most stepped aside, but some refused and were promptly arrested. The Metropolitan Police confirmed the junction was reopened to traffic by 3:35pm.

A Met spokesperson said: “Officers were deployed to Oxford Circus as protestors blocked the road at approximately 2:40pm. Conditions for protestors to move out of the road were imposed at 3:05pm. Most complied, but several arrests were also made. The junction reopened to traffic at 3:35pm.”

Youth Demand’s Message Gains Spotlight After Arrests

The arrests have shone a light on Youth Demand’s growing frustration with the current political system. Their bold move briefly paralyzed traffic and drew a heavy police presence, signalling their no-nonsense approach to rallying for real change in the capital.
