Search on for suspect’s body in Thames after Clapham chemical attack
Manhunt turns grim as police hunt Thames for Abdul Ezedi
Police launched a desperate search for Abdul Ezedi’s body in the River Thames early this morning following a brutal chemical attack in Clapham. The effort began at 8:50am, just after low tide, with a police boat scouring waters near Vauxhall and Chelsea bridges.
Detectives suspect Ezedi may have ended his life
Detectives believe Ezedi, the prime suspect, may have drowned. CCTV caught him leaning over Chelsea Bridge railings hours after the attack. Sources say the 10-day fugitive likely entered the Thames to escape capture or worse.
A behavioural psychologist analysing the case now suggests Ezedi may have taken his own life, deepening the mystery around his fate.
River Thames search complicated by fierce currents
Commander Jon Savell warned of major challenges in finding Ezedi’s body amid the treacherous Thames currents. “If he has gone in the water, he may not surface for up to a month – or possibly never,” he said.
Victim’s injuries ‘life-changing’ as hospital fears grow
Ezedi’s ex-partner suffered what police call “life-changing” injuries in the attack. She remains hospitalized and unable to communicate. There are fears she may lose sight in her right eye due to the chemical exposure.
The last confirmed sighting of Ezedi was on Chelsea Bridge just before 11:30pm on attack night, adding urgency and complexity to the ongoing investigation.
