Terror Police Probe Amesbury Mystery After Samples Sent to Porton Down
Police have confirmed that samples from a major Amesbury incident have been sent to the top-secret Porton Down lab for testing. Meanwhile, counter-terror officers have launched a full investigation into the shocking case in Wiltshire.
Major Incident Declared in Amesbury
Wiltshire Police declared a major incident after two people, a man and woman in their 40s, were found unconscious at a property on Muggleton Road, Amesbury, on Saturday evening.
Emergency services were called in immediately amid fears the pair had been exposed to an unknown substance.
Counter-Terror Team Steps In
The Metropolitan Police’s counter-terrorism unit confirmed they are working closely with Wiltshire Police.
“As expected, given recent events in Salisbury, officers from the counter-terror network are investigating this Amesbury incident alongside Wiltshire Police. We’re keeping an open mind about the circumstances and will update the public regularly,” a Met Police spokesperson said.
What Went Wrong? Contaminated Drugs or Something More Sinister?
Initial thoughts were that the pair had suffered from contaminated heroin or crack cocaine. But with samples now on their way to Porton Down, all options remain open.
Wiltshire Police warned it’s not yet clear if a crime has been committed, and further tests are underway to identify the substance involved.
A statement from Wiltshire Police is expected soon as the investigation intensifies.
