Police Dog Polly Sniffs Out Teen Suspect After Violent Polegate Assault

Break-in Reports Spark Midnight Police Hunt

At around 2.30am on Saturday, July 11, police were called to Windmill Place in Polegate after several reports of someone trying to break into a house.

Teen Girl Brutally Assaulted, Suspect Flees

A 17-year-old girl was said to have been violently assaulted by a 17-year-old boy, who then fled the scene. Officers arrived fast and deployed Police Dog Polly to track the suspect down.

Polly the Police Dog Tracks Suspect Across Gardens

Polly, a five-year-old German Shepherd-Malinois cross, is trained in tracking suspects, finding missing people, and searching buildings. She followed the trail behind a substation, climbed a fence, crossed several gardens, and finally spotted the teen hiding up a garden path.

Suspect Caught and Released Under Investigation

A further police unit arrived and arrested the boy, from eastbourne/" title="Eastbourne" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Eastbourne, on suspicion of assault, criminal damage, and possessing cannabis. He has since been released under investigation while inquiries continue.

Officers have also checked in with the victim to ensure her safety and provided safeguarding advice.
