Huddersfield Police Pledge Support Against Islamophobia

The Huddersfield Neighbourhood Policing Team has vowed to always listen to and back residents who report hate crimes. This comes after their key role at an Islamophobia Awareness Month event at Huddersfield University on November 1.

High-Profile Voices Join the Call

Inspector Graham Dyson led the charge at the event, joined by notable figures including Cllr Shabir Pandor, Leader of Kirklees Council, Revd Canon Rachel Firth, Vicar of Huddersfield, and Abdul Jebar from the Huddersfield Council of Mosques.

West Yorkshire Police: Fighting Hate Crime Head-On

West Yorkshire Police recognise how devastating hate crime is. They work tirelessly with local partners to raise awareness and encourage victims to step forward and report offences.

“It was a privilege to discuss experiences of hate incidents and how they impact not just victims, but families, friends and communities,” said Insp Graham Dyson. “The applause for how seriously West Yorkshire Police take hate crime was heartening. Our communities are becoming more confident in reporting these offences.”

Insp Dyson added: “Hate crime can never be tolerated. We will continue to robustly investigate all reports and bring offenders to justice.”

What Is Islamophobia Awareness Month?

Held every November since 2012, Islamophobia Awareness Month shines a light on the challenges faced by Muslim communities and celebrates their contributions to society.
