Blaze Hits Woolwich Flats – Pensioner Hospitalised
A major fire ripped through a converted mid-terraced house on Brookhill Road, Woolwich, early this morning (October 12). A pensioner was rushed to hospital after flames engulfed a second-floor flat.
Massive Fire Response in Action
Eight fire engines and around 60 firefighters flooded the scene, tackling the blaze that broke out at 3:52am. Crews from Plumstead, Greenwich, East Greenwich, and nearby stations responded swiftly. London Fire Brigade’s 32-metre turntable ladder was deployed, giving firefighters a vital aerial advantage.
The fire was brought under control within two hours. Two people received treatment from London Ambulance Service paramedics at the scene.
Pensioner’s Family Comforted as Police Probe Launched
The pensioner, who has lived in the home his entire life, remains in hospital. His brother and sister were comforted by firefighters while the Metropolitan Police launched a probe into the cause of the blaze.
A crime scene is currently in place, with authorities stressing that all efforts are underway to uncover what sparked the devastating fire.
