Teen Arrested Over Oxford Murder Shock

A 17-year-old boy from Oxford has been arrested on suspicion of murder. He remains in police custody as detectives probe the death of a 50-year-old man found in Barton.

Man Found Dead After Alleged Saturday Night Assault

Police were called to an address in Brome Place, Barton, on Sunday, where they discovered the man’s body. It’s believed the victim may have been assaulted the previous evening, but the attack went unreported until Sunday.

Detective Inspector Mike Roddy, leading the Major Crime Unit, urged witnesses to come forward. “If you were near the shops around Underhill Circus between 8:30pm and 10pm on Saturday, please tell us if you saw anything suspicious,” he said.

“We’re also asking anyone with dash-cam or CCTV footage to check their recordings and contact Thames Valley Police quoting incident reference 858 (24 April). You can reach police online or via 101. Alternatively, call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”

Police Seek Clues But Urge Calm

Superintendent Bruce Riddell, Oxford’s local policing commander, addressed growing concerns in Barton. “This tragic incident has shaken the community, but we believe it’s an isolated event, not linked to previous violence,” he said.

“We think the victim and those involved knew each other. Our Major Crime Unit is leaving no stone unturned as the investigation continues.”

He added: “An arrest has been made. Please avoid speculation. Police presence will remain high in the area, and officers are ready to answer any questions.”

Community Support and Respect for Victim’s Family

Superintendent Riddell expressed sympathy for the bereaved. “Our deepest condolences go out to the family and friends. They are receiving support from specially trained officers. We ask everyone to respect their privacy at this difficult time.”

Anyone with information is urged to contact the police immediately to help bring justice for the victim.
