Prince William and Kate Donate £3,500 After Food Bank Raid
The Prince and Princess of Wales have stepped up with a generous £3,500 donation to a South London food bank hit by a ruthless theft. The Peckham warehouse of Southwark Foodbank, run by charity Pecan, was left ransacked and bare after thieves stole thousands of pounds worth of essential supplies.
Warehouse Raided in Dead of Night
Staff arrived on Monday to find empty shelves following a break-in early Sunday morning. Alongside food, the burglars made off with a laptop and phone, causing extensive damage. The charity was left scrambling to recover from the blow.
Royal Generosity Sparks Community Outpouring
“This surprise donation by the Prince and Princess of Wales – following such a difficult spell for their family – underlines their kindness and decency,” said Peter Edwards, Pecan’s chief executive. “Their generosity will inspire staff and volunteers to redouble our efforts to alleviate poverty in London.”
The royal couple’s swift action inspired a wave of support from local people, businesses, and the council, with supplies and donations flooding in to replenish stocks. Pecan took to social media to publicly thank William and Kate, calling the donation a “huge boost” for their recovery efforts.
Police Hunt Culprits as Investigation Continues
Metropolitan Police confirmed officers were called to the warehouse at 9.02am on Monday. No arrests have been made yet, but the investigation remains open.
