Roads in Portsmouth have reopened after a major police search for a weapon this morning. Specialist sniffer dogs and Hampshire Police’s force support unit combed the area around Portsmouth Academy for Girls, St Mary’s Church, and the Madani Academy.
Officers were seen carrying out a fingertip search and even leaping over fences during the high-alert operation. The hunt was sparked following a violent attack near a bus stop on St Mary’s Road.
CCTV Hunt Underway to Crack Case
Police have been scouring CCTV footage from nearby businesses, desperate to catch the attacker on camera. A monitor management camera aimed at the bus stop where the victim was assaulted might have caught crucial footage.
Two Men Arrested, Area Reopens After Searches
Two suspects were arrested after fleeing down St Mary’s Road. Police also searched a nearby property linked to the pair as part of their investigation. Roads blocked off this morning finally reopened just after 1pm.
Blood-Stained Pavement Cleared by Specialists
Specialist contractors from Colas were called in to clean up blood on the pavement. It’s thought the victim stumbled from a property on St Mary’s Road before collapsing at the bus stop.
