Kent Cops and Councils Hit Illegal Waste Dumpers with Massive Crackdown
Over 30 Vehicles Pulled in Major Fly-Tipping Sweep
Kent Police’s Rural Taskforce teamed up with Dartford and Gravesham councils to tackle illegal waste transport and dumping. On Wednesday, July 13, 2022, officers stopped over 30 suspicious vehicles across north-west Kent to check drivers were playing by the rules.
Fines and Seizures Hit Fly-Tippers Hard
- Two vans loaded with scrap metal were slapped with £300 fines each for lacking valid waste transport licences.
- One vehicle was seized for being uninsured.
- Another driver got reported for dodging road tax.
Authorities Send Firm Warning to Criminal Dumpers
Sergeant Darren Walshaw said, “Fly-tipping blights communities and poses serious health risks. We’ll keep working with our partners to clamp down hard and send a clear message—this illegal rubbish disposal won’t be tolerated.”
Gravesham Council’s Cllr Shane Mochrie-Cox added, “Our environmental enforcement teams and these joint ops show a united front across north-west Kent. We’re making life difficult for fly-tippers and anyone paying for their dodgy services.”
He warned, “They never know when or where we’ll strike next, but when we do, we won’t hesitate to seize their gear and pursue prosecutions.”
Dartford Leaders Praise Operation’s Impact on Communities
Dartford Council Leader Jeremy Kite said, “One illegal dump can cause massive disruption. Stopping and checking 32 vehicles in a day is a big step in making life easier for residents.”
This crackdown highlights vital teamwork between local authorities and Kent Police to fight environmental crime. Together, they’re shutting down those who scar the community and threaten public health.
