Star Inn Pub Loses Licence After Police Crackdown
The Star Inn in St Mary in the Marsh has had its licence stripped by Folkestone and Hythe District Council. The move comes after Kent Police raised serious safety concerns following incidents at the pub.
Late-Night Boozing Sparks Police Action
On the early hours of June 15, police responded to a disturbance at the Star Inn. Officers found a heavily intoxicated woman trying to attack other customers. It was clear the pub had been serving alcohol well beyond its licensed hours—11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Monday to Saturday, and noon to 10 p.m. on Sundays.
A follow-up visit in August confirmed the pub was again operating illegally late into the night.
Police Offer Help – But Management Snubbed
Kent Police tried to work with the Star Inn’s management, offering support to upgrade their CCTV and improve safety measures. However, pub bosses refused to engage or take responsibility for the problems.
PC Alistair Pringle said, “Running licensed premises comes with responsibilities. It’s vital pubs keep customers safe and prevent anti-social behaviour affecting neighbours. We will work with pubs to maintain good practices but will act if licence holders ignore their duties.”
Licence Revoked – A Warning to Other Pubs
The licensing committee’s decision to revoke the Star Inn’s licence, subject to appeal, sends a strong message. It warns all pub owners to stick to the rules and safeguard their communities.
