Warning as Fake Football Scout Targets Maidstone Kids
Kent FA has issued a warning after a man pretending to be a Maidstone football scout was spotted approaching children at Gatland Park (ME16). He also claimed links to various soccer schools to gain trust.
Stranger Takes Photos and Hands Out Trophies
A football club training at Gatland Park noticed the suspicious man lingering for weeks, mostly on Wednesday evenings. Coaches confronted him after he took photos of children during training and told him to leave. He complied.
The man reportedly handed out trophies to a few children—though not during training sessions—which raised serious alarm.
“We have spoken with the children about Stranger Danger, reminding them not to talk to strangers or accept gifts,” said a club spokesperson. Parents of the kids who received trophies have also been informed.
Second Sighting Claims Link to Crystal Palace Scout Role
The same man was spotted over the weekend at KSport’s Cobdown ground, watching youth games. This time, he claimed to be a Crystal Palace scout. However, Crystal Palace have denied any association with him.
Police Involved – Description Released
The club has reported the incidents to Kent Police. The man is described as:
- Black, thought to be African
- Early 20s
- Wearing England football kit and carrying a ball
- About 5’7” to 5’8” tall
- Believed to live locally due to repeated appearances in the area
Police are investigating. Anyone with information is urged to call 101 immediately.
