Beware! Fake Screwfix Father’s Day Drill Giveaway Scam Hits WhatsApp

A dodgy WhatsApp message is hitting phones, promising a free DeWalt drill as part of a “2022 Father’s Day Giveaway” from Screwfix. It looks real, with the Screwfix logo and all, but don’t be fooled. The link directs you to a sketchy Russian website, not the official Screwfix site.

Screwfix Issues Warning

Screwfix took to Twitter to slam the scam. They said: “We are aware of fake messages circulating via WhatsApp and other social channels using Screwfix branding.” They urged anyone who gets these messages to delete them immediately and warned never to click links or share the message.

“We would never request personal information from our customers via WhatsApp to enter a competition.”

How to Spot and Stop This Scam

  • The suspicious link won’t take you to the official Screwfix website. Always check the URL carefully before clicking.
  • If you get a message like this, block and report the sender on WhatsApp straight away.
  • You can report scam texts by forwarding them to 7726 and alert the company being impersonated.
  • If you’ve fallen victim or nearly did, report it at Action Fraud.

Don’t let scammers drill a hole in your wallet this Father’s Day. Stay sharp, stay safe!
