Tragedy in Tavistock Square: 14-Year-Old Boy Stabbed to Death
A 14-year-old boy has died following a stabbing in Tavistock Square, Harpurhey, on Friday evening. Greater Manchester Police rushed to the scene at around 6.05pm on September 15, 2023.
Despite the rapid response from paramedics and emergency services, the boy later died in hospital. Family Liaison Officers are now supporting the devastated family during this heartbreaking time.
Teen Arrested for Murder as Police Launch Full Investigation
Police have arrested another 14-year-old boy on suspicion of murder. He remains in custody for questioning as officers continue to investigate the scene, which remains cordoned off.
Section 60 Authority Imposed to Curb Violence
In response to the stabbing, Greater Manchester Police have invoked a Section 60 order. This gives officers the power to stop and search anyone in North Manchester until 8.26pm on Saturday, September 16.
Detective Superintendent Phil Key shared his condolences, stating, “Firstly I would like to share my deepest condolences with the family at this unbelievably difficult time. Our Family Liaison Officers are currently working with them, and we will continue to support the family throughout this extremely troubling period.”
He added, “We understand that Section 60 powers can cause concern, but we use them only when necessary to keep the public safe. Our priority is to minimise any violent behaviour and prevent further serious incidents.”

Authorities are urging anyone with dash-cam, CCTV, or doorbell footage from the area to contact the police. Witnesses can call 0161 856 3015 quoting incident number 2843 of 15/09/23.
