Spate of Church Fires and Graffiti Rocks East London
Detectives are hunting for witnesses after a series of suspicious fires damaged churches across Newham and Waltham Forest.
Multiple Fires Strike Churches in Stratford, Cann Hall, and Beyond
- On Wednesday 19 June, fire broke out between 7pm and 8am at a church on Broadway, Stratford, damaging its front door.
- At 10.26pm the same day, a blaze was reported outside a church on Cann Hall Road, E11. Luckily, a passerby put it out.
- Later that evening, at 9.10pm, police were called to Ramsay Road, E7 after another fire blazed outside a church, with graffiti found on the door.
- Then on Thursday 20 June at 12.10pm, a fire outside a Dyson Road church, E15, was reported. Graffiti was again found on the door.
Police and Fire Brigade Respond to Alarms
Officers and the London Fire Brigade attended each scene. Graffiti scratched onto church doors has investigators worried these are linked attacks rather than random accidents.
Investigation Underway – Police Urge Public to Speak Up
“At this early stage, the fires are being treated as suspicious,” said a North East Community Support Unit spokesperson. “We’re keeping an open mind on motive but need the public’s help.”
