Six Arrested After Teen Murder Shock in Newham

Six suspects, including five teenage boys and one man, have been arrested over the brutal murder of 16-year-old Shanur Ahmed in Newham. Police swooped on Friday morning, March 6, carrying out warrants linked to the killing. Shanur’s family have been informed and are receiving specialist support.

Teen Found Dead Near Gallions Reach DLR

Shanur was discovered unconscious with head injuries in scrubland behind Gallions Reach DLR Station on Tuesday, March 3. Emergency services were called at 8.38am, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

A post-mortem revealed death was caused by head trauma. Shanur had been reported missing earlier that day after failing to return home to Manor Park.

Details of Arrests and Ongoing Investigation

  • Those detained remain in custody: four boys aged 16-17 and a 20-year-old man.
  • Four others arrested for robbery connected to an incident on Prince Regent Lane on March 2, involving a stabbing.
  • Police link the stabbing and robbery to Shanur’s murder inquiry.

Police Probe Group Seen with Baseball Bats

Officers are investigating reports of 30 males carrying baseball bats near Gallions Reach DLR on Monday evening, March 2. Despite searching, no suspects were found at the time.

Detective Chief Inspector Larry Smith of the Met’s Specialist Crime Command said: “Enquiries continue at pace following the tragic death of another young person in London due to violence. I can provide every reassurance that my team is working as hard as possible to find answers for Shanur’s family.”

“We are looking into whether previous disputes or the large group seen near the station could be linked to Shanur’s death. We urge anyone with information to come forward. It doesn’t matter if you want to remain anonymous – just get in touch.”
