Crackdown on Youth Crime in Barnham and Yapton
Sussex Police have teamed up with British Transport Police, Southern Rail, local schools, and businesses like Tesco and Co-op to tackle soaring youth crime and anti-social behaviour in Barnham and Yapton. The operation, called Operation Precinct, kicked off in February after growing community alarm.
Community Steps Up to Fight Crime
On April 4, a public meeting at Barnham Community Hall saw residents airing their concerns and teaming up with police to boost safety. The plan includes beefed-up patrols by British Transport Police and closer coordination with Arun District Council and the Safer Arun Partnership.
Results Already Making a Difference
Chief Inspector Will Keating-Jones highlighted the vital role of community feedback in shaping effective crime-busting strategies. So far, 14 arrests have been made under Operation Precinct, several youths are enrolled in intervention programmes, and Community Protection Warnings have been issued to deter troublemakers.
Residents Urged to Stay Alert
Locals are urged to stay vigilant and report suspicious activity immediately to keep Barnham and Yapton safe. Sussex Police and their partners are determined to restore order and protect the community’s well-being through these sustained efforts.
