Tragic Death After Police Car Hits Pedestrian in Peacehaven

A 27-year-old man died at the scene after being struck by an unmarked police car on Saturday night, April 30, on Dorothy Avenue, Peacehaven. The shocking collision happened around 11.10pm on the A259 South Coast Road.

IOPC Launches Full Investigation

The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) has taken charge of the probe, with Sussex Police unable to release further details while the inquiry is ongoing. Chief Superintendent Jo Banks expressed deep sympathy for the victim’s loved ones, saying, “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who tragically died in this collision.”

She added that Sussex Police are fully cooperating with the IOPC to ensure a thorough and fair investigation.

Witnesses Urged to Come Forward

IOPC Regional Director Graham Beesley appealed for witnesses and any dashcam or mobile phone footage, stating:

“We appreciate the community’s concern and are working hard to establish all the facts. We have already received dashcam footage and are reviewing police bodycam and radio transmissions.”
