Man Shot Dead Outside Home in Newry
Detectives from the Police Service of Northern Ireland’s Major Investigation Team have launched a murder probe after a 58-year-old man was gunned down outside his home in Newry last night, 1 December.
The victim, described as a husband, father, and son, was shot multiple times at close range in the Ardcarn Park area just after 6pm.
‘Beyond Reckless’ Ambush in Residential Area
Superintendent Norman Haslett, local commander for Newry, Mourne & Down Policing District, slammed the attack as “beyond reckless.”
“We believe those responsible carefully planned and lay in wait to ambush and execute the victim,” Haslett said. “This murder happened in a built-up residential area at teatime, when families and children would have been out and about ahead of Christmas. The level of violence was reprehensible.”
“The victim’s car even crashed into a neighbour’s property after the shooting. The perpetrators showed no regard for the victim, his family, or the community. They have no moral compass. I condemn their actions in the strongest terms.”
Police Urge Witnesses to Speak Out
Superintendent Haslett urged anyone with information or dash cam footage to come forward. Witnesses in the area during the attack should contact detectives on 101 quoting reference number 1600 of 01/12/22.

Police Warn Against Retaliation
Haslett also appealed for calm, warning of increased police patrols in the coming days. “The last thing anyone wants to see is any form of retribution,” he added.
