Prince Philip’s Funeral Set for April 17 at Windsor Castle
The Royal Household confirmed that His Royal Highness Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, will be laid to rest in a ceremonial funeral on Saturday, 17 April. The service will be held at St George’s Chapel within Windsor Castle grounds.
No Crowds at Windsor, Police Urge Caution
Thames Valley Police have urged the public not to gather at Windsor Castle or other Royal residences. Following Government and Royal advice, they ask people to avoid large groups and minimise travel during this period of national mourning.
“We understand people want to pay respects, but please keep safe and follow guidelines,” said Assistant Chief Constable Ben Snuggs, the funeral’s strategic commander.
No Floral Tributes — Donate Instead
The Royal Household requests no floral tributes at Windsor. Instead, well-wishers are encouraged to make charitable donations in memory of Prince Philip.
An online book of condolence has been set up for people wishing to leave their messages.
Heavy Security Amid National Mourning
Security will be tight. Thames Valley Police are boosting their presence with CCTV, ANPR technology, hostile vehicle barriers, and a Mounted Section patrolling the area. Some security measures will remain out of sight to protect public safety.
Snuggs added: “We will continue to ensure safety and support the Royal Family during this difficult time.”
