Police Crack Down on Anti-Social Drivers in Ebbsfleet and Medway
On Friday 19 April 2024, Dartford’s Community Safety Unit swung into action after reports of rowdy car drivers causing havoc near Ebbsfleet. The troublemakers gathered in the Castle Hill area, roaring engines and creating hazards for others on the road, while residents endured sleepless nights from the noise.
Motorists Busted at Platinum Jubilee Park
Police and Special Constables headed to Platinum Jubilee Park, where they stopped 13 drivers and took their details. Officers warned the group to behave and ordered them to clear off – with a stern message not to return.
Medway Target Off-Road Bike Nuisance
Meanwhile, in Medway, officers joined forces with the Rural Task Force and council partners on Sunday 14 April to clamp down on reckless off-road biking. Patrols swept green spaces in Chatham and Gillingham, hunting down riders without insurance, licences, or those riding dangerously.
Several riders unloading off-road bikes to use on footpaths were confronted, and a bike spotted causing trouble in Hoo was seized on the spot. Police also issued multiple Section 59 warnings, threatening more seizures if nuisance riding continues.
Public Space Protection Orders Clamp Down on ASB
Both Dartford and Medway operate under strict Public Space Protection Orders (PSPOs) banning convoy driving, racing, stunts, revving engines, wheel spins, and loud music. The measures aim to tackle persistent anti-social behaviour disturbing communities.
Inspector Mick Hayes of Medway’s Community Safety Unit said: “These PSPOs came after public consultations, and we’ll keep working with the council to enforce them. We know how much ASB can affect those living, working, and visiting the area and will continue to tackle it head-on.”
