Young Moped Rider Dies in Early Morning Taxi Crash

Tragedy struck when 19-year-old Daniel Gale, known locally as “Bacon,” died following a collision between his moped and a taxi just before 3am on Sunday, 30 August. The crash happened at the junction of Kathleen Road and Botany Bay Road.

Daniel was rushed to hospital but sadly died the next day, Monday 31 August, after suffering catastrophic head injuries.

Family Pay Heartbreaking Tribute

Daniel’s family have paid an emotional tribute, revealing the full impact of the loss. They said:

“Daniel, known as ‘Bacon’, tragically lost his battle at 11am on 31 August 2020 after a horrific motorcycle crash. He lived for his family, leaving behind three sisters and a young son.

“Dan’s quirky, hilarious personality lit up every room, and he was loved by many—even his school teachers.

“A lover of bikes from a young age, Dan was a fully licensed and experienced rider. His death has deeply rocked the community.

“After losing his sister to tragedy years ago, Dan understood the importance of organ donation and registered two years ago. We are proud that Daniel saved six lives through organ donation.

“Our family is beyond broken. No parent should have to bury their child—this is our second.”

Police Appeal for Witnesses and Dashcam Footage

Officers are appealing for anyone who was in the area or has dash-cam footage of either vehicle before the collision to come forward. They are also keen to hear from anyone with CCTV or other digital recordings that might have captured the scene.
