Police Launch Tough Anti Drink and Drug Driving Blitz This Festive Season
From 1 December to 1 January 2022, the cops are cracking down hard on drink and drug driving with their annual festive campaign, Operation Holly. The mission? To keep roads safe by combining heavy-duty education and strict enforcement right through Christmas and New Year.
Drink or Drug Driving: Deadly Risks Highlighted
Driving under the influence is a deadly gamble. It sharply raises the risk of serious injury or fatal crashes on UK roads.
Sergeant Dave Hazlett from the Joint Operations Roads Policing Unit warned: “Every year we find people still hitting the roads drunk or high. It’s shocking that despite our efforts, some don’t get the message.”
Plan Your Journey – Think Before You Drink
Sergeant Hazlett urged partygoers to plan their trip home in advance. “Use public transport, taxis, or pick a designated driver if you’re out in a group. And don’t forget, the morning after counts too. Alcohol and drugs can stay in your system for hours, meaning you could still be over the limit when you think you’re sober.”
“Even a tiny amount of booze or drugs impacts your driving ability and puts everyone at risk,” he added. “Plan your journeys carefully this Christmas to avoid tragic road accidents and keep families together.”
Don’t Risk It – Report Drink and Drug Drivers
The message couldn’t be clearer: don’t drink or drug drive – it’s simply not worth it.
If you spot anyone drink or drug driving, call 999 in an emergency or ring 101 to report information. You can also submit details online via relevant police reporting channels.
Stay safe, plan smart, and keep the Christmas roads accident-free!
