Driver Nabbed Smuggling £4 Million of Cocaine on M6
A St Helens man has been locked up for nine years after a major drugs bust on the M6 uncovered a staggering £4 million cocaine haul.
Huge Cocaine Load Found Hidden in Van
Stephen Phillips, 56, was stopped by Cheshire Police traffic officers on 16 October 2025. When they searched his van, officers found three cardboard boxes – two of which contained blocks of suspected Class A drugs.
Forensic tests later confirmed the drugs were 40kg of cocaine, with a street value soaring over £4 million.
Quick Arrest Leads to Guilty Plea and Prison
Phillips, believed to be on his way home, was arrested and taken to Merseyside police station. Charged with possession with intent to supply, he pleaded guilty at Liverpool Crown Court on 24 November 2025.
Today, the judge handed down a hefty nine-year prison sentence.
Police Hail Teamwork for Major Drug Bust
“Had this cocaine hit the streets of Merseyside and beyond, it would have fuelled violence and endangered lives,” warned Detective Chief Inspector Tony Roberts of the Merseyside Organised Crime Partnership. “The joint effort between Merseyside Police, the NCA, and support from Cheshire Police is crucial in fighting serious crime. I thank all involved for their invaluable help.”
