Three Boys Arrested Over Blaze at Vacant Building in Southampton
Hampshire police are hunting answers after a fire tore through a vacant building on St Mary’s Street on Tuesday, March 26. Two boys, aged 11 and 13, were arrested on suspicion of arson. A third boy, just 12 years old, also landed in custody linked to the blaze.
All three have been questioned and released but remain under investigation as officers probe the cause of the blaze.
Blaze Sparks Evacuations
The fire broke out at 2pm in a commercial property under construction. Firefighters and police rushed to the scene. The fire was so severe that nearby homes and businesses had to be evacuated as a safety precaution. Luckily, no injuries were reported.
Suspects Spotted on Roof Before Fire
Officers previously released CCTV images showing three people on the roof just before the fire started. Those individuals have now been identified and ruled out from the inquiry.
Police Urge Anyone With Info to Come Forward
“If you or anyone you know was near the building before the fire, your info could be crucial,” police said. They also appeal to the public who filmed the blaze to hand over any mobile footage.
