Chaos on the M25 as Pedestrian Injury Halts Traffic

Thousands of drivers are stuck in gridlock tonight on the M25 clockwise carriageway between junction 6 near Clacket Lane services and junction 5 at the A21/M26 interchange in Kent.

Major Incident Brings M25 to a Standstill

A pedestrian suffered serious injuries after falling on the busy motorway. Kent Police, paramedics, and the Kent, Sussex & Surrey Air Ambulance rushed to the scene on the hard shoulder of the five-lane carriageway.

All lanes were shut temporarily to allow the air ambulance to land safely. The injured person was treated onsite before being airlifted to a London hospital.

Road Closures and Diversions Add to the Mayhem

An overbridge on 1 Road in Westerham is also closed while officers conduct investigations. Scene of crime officers have been spotted taking photos, with a yellow high-vis jacket visible on the carriageway.

National Highways confirmed emergency services, including traffic officers, are managing the incident. Due to planned roadworks on the A25 diversion route, traffic is being rerouted through local roads, causing further delays.

There’s currently 4.5 miles of congestion with delays of at least 30 minutes over normal travel times.

Official Statements from Police and National Highways

A Kent Police spokesman said: “Officers were called at 7.40pm on Thursday 9 December 2021, to a location on the M25 where a pedestrian has fallen and suffered serious injuries. No vehicles were involved.”

“The anti-clockwise carriageway is currently closed between junctions 6 and 5. There are also delays on the clockwise carriageway. Officers and ambulance crews remain at the scene. The closure is likely to remain in place for a number of hours.”
