Four Women Rescued in Newcastle Modern Slavery Raid
Police swooped on the west end of Newcastle this morning, rescuing four women in a major crackdown on modern slavery and trafficking.
Weeks of Intel Lead to Dramatic Raids
After weeks of intense intelligence-gathering, officers executed four warrants targeting organised crime groups believed to be trafficking vulnerable women from Eastern Europe, primarily Romania.
The victims were found crammed into tiny accommodation and forced or coerced into sex work. Gangsters controlled their passports, withheld documents, and took all their earnings.
Perpetrators Locked Up, Victims Given Support
Four men linked to the trafficking ring were arrested and are now held in custody. Meanwhile, the four rescued women have been moved to a secure reception centre.
There, they will undergo health checks and receive tailored support from police and partner agencies aimed at helping them rebuild their lives.
