Met Police Stand Guard as Covid Rules Ease in London
Since the pandemic began, Met Police officers have worked round the clock to keep Londoners informed and safe amid ever-changing Covid rules. They’ve praised the heroic sacrifices made by millions across the capital—cutting back on socialising, steering clear of colleagues, friends, and family—to stop the virus from spreading.
Restrictions Loosen but Vigilance Remains Crucial
Though restrictions are easing from Monday, the virus isn’t beaten yet. Infection rates are on the rise again, and everyone must keep their guard up. The fight to keep Covid at bay isn’t over.
Police Shift Focus but Stay Frontline Guardians
From Monday, Met officers will stay highly visible on the streets, just like they have throughout the pandemic. They’ll stop enforcing Covid rules but will ramp up efforts to tackle crime—especially violent offences, their top priority.
Deputy Assistant Commissioner’s Warning
Deputy Assistant Commissioner Jane Connors, Met’s strategic lead for policing: “Since last March, Londoners have made huge sacrifices to save lives. I’m grateful to the majority who stuck to the rules. Enforcement was a last resort, used against those ignoring them and risking public health.
“As restrictions ease, people want normal life back. But the battle isn’t over. We must all act responsibly—keep testing, isolate if symptomatic, and follow government guidance to keep friends and family safe.
“The Met will remain visible and ready to help. Crime fights continue, and we’ll keep London’s streets and public spaces safe as the city reopens.”
