Police were scrambled to the Jamiah Masjid & Institute in Coventry just after 9pm following reports of a violent brawl involving a large gang of men, some armed with knives.
Man, 52, fatally stabbed in brutal street fight
Officers arrived to find two injured men. A 52-year-old man had been stabbed and, despite frantic attempts to save him, he died shortly after. Another man, aged 44, suffered a minor stab wound.
Two arrested in stabbing probe, murder charges likely
Armed police arrested a 56-year-old man nearby soon after the attack. A second suspect, 27, was caught in the early hours. Both remain in custody and are being questioned on suspicion of murder.
Police hunt for witnesses after isolated, deadly dispute
Detective Superintendent Shaun Edwards said: “This is a truly awful time for the family of the man who died. We are supporting them fully. We’ve made strong early progress but need to identify everyone involved. This appears to be an isolated incident and is not linked to any other disputes in Coventry or West Midlands.”
He urged anyone who witnessed the fight or has dashcam or mobile footage to come forward. Police are also stepping up patrols and working with community leaders to reassure locals.
