Eight Arrested in Blitz on ULEZ Camera Vandalism Across London
Police have made a major breakthrough in the fight against attacks on London’s Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) cameras. Eight suspects were arrested in a coordinated dawn raid targeting those accused of plotting to wreck these vital devices.
Early Morning Raids Across London and Beyond
The Metropolitan Police’s Roads and Transport Policing Command swooped in the early hours of Wednesday, executing warrants at homes in Uxbridge, Ickenham, Northwood, Sutton, Eltham, Windsor, and even on the Isle of Sheppey.
Six men and two women are now in custody, all suspected of conspiracy to commit criminal damage. One man also faces charges for threatening repair teams fixing the vandalised cameras.
‘Not a Victimless Crime,’ Warn Police
Superintendent Paul Thomas hit out at the destruction, saying:
“There is a big difference between lawful protest and plotting to destroy or seriously damage property.
“Some may think this sort of behaviour is a victimless crime, but when cameras are damaged or destroyed, it creates dangerous hazards—risking collisions and disrupting residents and motorists.”
Thomas confirmed the Met will keep working closely with Transport for London (TfL) to crack down on offenders and build more cases.
Ongoing Hunt for More Culprits
Police searches continue at the suspects’ homes, with items linked to the offences already recovered.
The investigation is ongoing, and officers urge anyone with information on plans to sabotage ULEZ cameras to step forward.
