A heartbreaking tragedy struck Watling Street near Meadow Way on Saturday night. A young girl, known locally as Lilly, was hit by a car just after 6.50pm while walking. She was rushed to a London hospital but sadly died the following evening, Sunday 11 July.
Community Pays Tribute
Flowers, cards, and drawings have appeared at the crash site as the local community mourns little Lilly. Passersby have left heartfelt messages at the spot where the girl was fatally injured.
How the Accident Happened
Reports say Lilly was wearing flip-flops when one slipped off. She went back onto the road to retrieve it and was struck. Firefighters from a nearby station helped immediately, while neighbours called for an ambulance. The girl was thrown a significant distance in the collision.
Driver Arrested and Released on Bail
A man in his 50s, driving a yellow vehicle, was arrested before Lilly’s death. He faces charges including causing serious injury by dangerous driving and driving while impaired. He has been released on bail until Tuesday 3 August.
