Newlywed Tragedy: Couple Die in Suspected Carbon Monoxide Leak on Mallorca Honeymoon
Mary Somerville, 39, has died just two months after her husband, Jaime Carsi, 40, was killed by a suspected gas leak from a faulty fridge during their dream honeymoon in Mallorca.
Honeymoon Horror Unfolds
On May 6, the couple were found unconscious at a family-owned holiday home in Cala Mesquida, northeast Mallorca. Investment analyst Jaime was discovered dead in bed, while Mary was rushed to hospital in serious condition.
Tragically, Mary Somerville passed away on July 2 at St Columba’s Hospice in edinburgh/" title="Edinburgh" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Edinburgh, where she had returned for treatment.
Police Confirm Carbon Monoxide Leak
Mallorca’s Guardia Civil revealed the likely cause: a malfunctioning gas fridge causing a deadly carbon monoxide leak. They stated, “Everything suggests this was due to the malfunctioning of a gas fridge, which led to carbon monoxide poisoning. The man was found dead, the woman unconscious on the bed. It appears to have been a domestic accident.”
An autopsy confirmed Jaime Carsi’s death was caused by carbon monoxide poisoning.
